We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing financial records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The Accountant will work closely with other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and provide support for budgeting and forecasting.
Responsibilities:
Ensure consistent quality and delivery of finance routines, including transactions processing, expenses claims, monthly management accounts and closure of accounts processes.
Oversee budgeting, forecasting and reporting processes prepared by the Finance Manager.
Prioritise building the financial literacy of team members/senior management to effectively execute their responsibilities around budget management and financial compliance particularly.
Lead on the identification and mitigation of financial risks.
Liaise with, and support, accountants/suppliers with preparation of annual accounts, project audits and wider statutory audit requirements should they be required in the regions where ETP operates.
Support to the Programmes Team in preparing donor reports and provide advice with regard to cost recovery and cost attribution.
In collaboration with the Executive Director (ED) and Audit & Risk Committee (ARC), lead on strategic financial planning, setting the agenda and production of papers for the ARC and for the Board of Directors
In collaboration with the ED and Head of Programmes and broader SMT, support ongoing assessment of the funding landscape, including reviewing opportunities, threats and costs of fundraising in addition membership
levy, and modelling a range of scenarios toward a strategic, predictable and sustainable financing mix.
Produce quarterly management accounts for the Board
Work with the ED and the board’s ARC on setting agenda and production of papers for the ARC and contribute to papers for the Board of Directors, as required.
Ensure effective financial controls, and compliance of all statutory requirements and accounting in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) and the Companies Act.
Lead on the annual production and audit of ETP’s statutory accounts, including preparation of the statutory accounts in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
Formulate an approach towards establishing a procurement framework for sourcing, tendering, and contracting across all geographies (including the UK) and against all funding/legal requirements, with input from procurement specialists.
Requirements:
A strong track record in financial controls and management in the not-for-profit sector.
Experience working in international organisations, across jurisdictions and in a multi-currency setup.
Able to communicate complex financial information in a simple and clear way.
A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a senior financial position.
Recognised qualification in accounting.
Third sector experience, or from a “mission-driven” organisation. Additional experience in corporate/commercial sectors is desirable.
Demonstrable experience of financial acumen across multiple legal jurisdictions.
Track record of overseeing funding contracts and reporting to donors, including management of multiple income streams which fund multiple projects.
Board-level collaboration and reporting experience, including on risk management and compliance.
Senior finance experience in reviewing and improving systems and controls; building a sustainable and scalable organisation.
